Overpriced & overrated

Very nice food, dessert was amazing. The cocktails where pretty good too 🥳

Absolutely fantastic New Years eve

Fantastic restaurant

We've been several times before this evening and, with the exception of a poor Sunday Lunch experience, have always been pleased, However this evening when we were to go with friends thankfully they cried off due to illness we were disappointed. Having booked and with anticipation of the usual excellent menu choice we arrived to find that the menu was very restricted to nothing more than four or five 'pub' classics. Nothing was said about the restriction when we booked. So what was expected to be a special dinner turned out to be 'pub grub' albeit well cooked and presented. Shame special nights will be somewhere else from now on.

We had this lunch today, the 29th December but had to write the review as soon as possible to spread the word about this lovely restaurant. The owners have got everything so right, including the lovely staff who served us. We wish we had a restaurant near us in Brentwood, which came as close to perfection as this little gem does. This is literally the best bought Sunday lunch I ever had and I never give praise easily. 10/10 for the perfect Sunday lunch with over and above the usual trimmings, which included chicken, pork and slow cooked melt in the mouth beef, the frilliest, tastiest Yorkshire puddings, homemade stuffing, mixed green veg, red cabbage, roast potatoes, honey roasted parsnips and carrots, leeks in cheese sauce. All served on separate dishes in the middle of the table. So much flavour was incorporated into each element of this, no cheating with shortcuts like so many other restaurants which offer 3course deals. We loved the cosy, quirky layout and decor. There are 2 floors, the 2nd of which has a large round table, which we will ask for when we come back with a larger group. Our starters and desserts did not disappoint either, presented so beautifully and all tasted devine. It's a bit of a trek for us, but my family and I cannot wait to come back for another meal at the Chophouse in Braintree.
